About this talk

What are the social and educational consequences of long term absence from school? Sally Thornton draws on her teaching experience and research by No Isolation to examine how warm technology can reduce loneliness and social isolation amongst one of the most vulnerable groups; children with long term illness.

With specific reference to telepresence robot, AV1, this talk looks at best practice for distance learning that improves the wellbeing and educational outcomes of students who find themselves physically unable to attend school. It will also include a deeper dive into AV1’s uses and how councils and schools in the UK are boosting inclusion with this innovative technology.
