About this talk

At DVLA we are continuing our move towards digital first transactions as we re-platform our services. One key enabler is to allow customers to provide images, such as photos and signatures, as part of their digital applications.

In this talk you’ll hear how photo and signature capture, processing and review capabilities were developed quickly and iteratively, as part of a COVID response initiative in which we accelerated the development of a new first provisional licence application service.

We will look in detail at the technical approach to photo and signature processing, and how we utilise AWS services such as Rekognition to detect faces within photos, as well as how we combine machine processing with a human review process in which DVLA staff ultimately approve or reject each image.
